Still enjoy a colorful garden with fall and winter flowers. Not all West L.A. residents live in single family homes. These flowering tip are great if living in a home, condominium, townhouse or loft. Fall and Winter Flowering Tips: 
Aster

Lavender-blue, pink, yellow flower can grow all year around if faded flowers are removed.
Calendula

Daisy-like flower in orange or bright yellow provides color from late fall to spring in mild winter climates. Likes full sun, moderate water and well drained soil.
Cineraria

Prefers shade can grow to 2 feet high with wide daisies colors vary from white, pink and purple. Like shade, regular watering and loose rich soil.
Cyclamen
Full blooming flower in the winter months. Flower colors vary from white, pink, and red. Can be grown indoors but plant prefers the outdoors with part shade and regular watering.
English Daisy
Great border, bedding or potted plant needs regular watering and partial shade.
Hellebores
Flowers in winter and spring.  Flowers shaped bells facing outward or drooping. Plant takes full sun water regularly. Plant in well draining soil.
Iceland Poppy

I love this flower it dances in the breeze giving a wave of color to the garden.  Can plant in garden, balcony or patio.  Wide range of colors from: cream, orange, pink, salmon, yellow or white. Needs full sun and regular watering.
Nemesia
Bright green leaves and flowers bloom from upright stem. Some nemesia are scented others are not scented. Grow in full sunlight, well-drained soil and water regularly. Pinch off faded flowers to prolong bloom.
Pansy

Blooms over long period of time from fall to early spring. Delicate appearance but sturdy plant.  Range of colors from solid and multi-color.  I plant in potted and hanging plants. Pansies love steer manure as a fertilizer.  Note: fertilizing with steer manure make sure soil and fertilizer are moist.
Snapdragon
Bloom all winter and comes in variety of colors. Can grow to 1 to 3 feet tall and 6 to 2 feet wide.  Likes full sun and regular watering. Great plant in garden bedding or as potted plant. Dual purpose when has full bloom in garden cut and make floral arrangement indoors.
Winter Jasmine

Fragrant stand out plant.  Great for landscaping and can be trellis  plant in garden or  patio. Yellow flowering plant blooms in winter and early spring. Vine can reach 4 to 7 feet high. Enjoys full sun and good soil.
